Early metalsmiths made a variety of intricately designed and decorated jewelry, weapons and household implements, like pens, combs and buckles, during the great flourishing period of Ancient Islamic history. Art was part of everyday life, as even common items like drinking glasses were objects of decoration. One of the favorite paintings I did prior to my conversion to Islam features an ornately crafted battleaxe, inscribed and carved fine metals and jewels.
