Anna Faris’ new movie, What’s Your Number?, hits theaters at the end of this month. In the film, Faris’ character Ally is told that no man wants to marry a woman who’s slept with more than twenty men; she takes a long hard look at her past partners to see if it’s possible that she missed “the one” along the way. So it follows that someone would take this seriously and conduct a study! Thankfully,AskMen.com and Cosmopolitan recently teamed up to find out what, if anything, your “number” means to the opposite sex.
The study found that men think that women who have slept with 10 or more men are promiscuous, whereas women found that men who slept with 20 or more women were promiscuous. The men surveyed tended to be more concerned about the number—not because of what it says about a woman’s reputation—but because the higher the number the more intimidated they felt about their performance.
Apparently, people aren’t asking because they’re concerned about their health, but because they want to make sure they’re doing it right—and that they’re important enough to the person they’re sleeping with to be one of a few, instead of many.
